Just got the new Freestylers album, “Adventures In Freestyle”.
First impressions…. a bit tosh, but as it progressed it got better. I thought they may have cocked up with this one, but there are some wicked tracks on here that
need to be heard. There’s a few tracks where you can deffo hear the influence of the old Pendulum boys – certain riffs follow a similar note pattern and some tunes have a similar spacey dubby sound to “Fasten Your Seatbelt”. Whether this is a good or bad thing is down to taste, although I thought it was a bit of a shame that they had riffs that sounded so obviously similar to something else.
Good range of beat-led music, from old skool block-party hip-hop to a bit of DnB. From in-yer-face breakz, to crusty soul. Even a bit of funky disco in there too. This variety really shows off their talent for making cross-genre music.
However, for me personally, this album is lacking the rawness of Raw as Fuck. Loads more vocals on here than Raw as Fuck (on every track I think actually), which is all good in places, but to me sometimes reduces the “nasty” factor of tunes, especially when they should be all about the bass and the drum.
Anyway, overall this is a wicked effort by the Freestylers boys. Good variation of styles and sounds and obviously good production, but just don’t expect anything
too heavy.
I also spotted the Krafty Kuts album in HMV, which I will be picking up asap and will do a similar review on that.

P.s. For those of you (like me) that are after the drrrrrrrrtier end of the breakz spectrum, there is a CD coming out soon on the Hardcore Beats label called Hardwired. This is set to be a fookin banger.
P.p.s. If anyone’s wondering who died and made me an authority on music…well…. no one did, I’m just telling it how I see it in order to inform my fellow consumers and to open up debate.
