Krafty Kuts – Freakshow – Against The Grain

(here you go Sam  thumbs up )

Like I said at the end of my Adventures in Freestyle review, this album brings the funk and it brings it right in your face…. hard.

Laden with crisp and sweet beats which taste like cranberry juice, and warm, meaty basslines which feel like a 70’s duvet, this album works its way through various genres of the world of funk.

Slightly more soulful and phresh than some of Krafty’s vinyl releases, Freakshow is not what you should buy if you’re after dirt and crust. However, if you’re looking for a cracking collection of perfectly produced booty bouncers, then will do the trick nicely.

There are some excellent collaborations on this one, such as The Scratch Perverts, MC Dynamite, Dr. Luke and A-Skillz and also Theo (this is the guy who sang on “Push Up” by the Freestylers – wicked tune), which bring a richness to the diversity that Mr. Kuts and managed to accomplish on this cd. You’ve got funky breaks, electro, party hip-hop, disco-funk and even a Samba tune thrown in for good measure.

I reckon this is a wicked album that brings the funky summer vibe just when the weather’s staring to turn shite and the days are starting to get shorter. Good timing there from Krafty and the Against The Grain boys, cos I know I can usually do with a good dose of summer at this time of the year.
