Mwhahahaahah I've finally got it!!

Seeing as the last review of a Breaks album was by Mr Deviant on a Hardcore Beats mixtape in December 2006, I thought I'd help rectify this shocking state of affairs and let you know what I thought of arguably the biggest album launch of the year in the Breaks world - Headthrash by the Plump DJs!
For those that don't know, the Plump DJs have been pretty much the biggest name in Breaks for the past decade and were largely responsible (alongside people like Adam Freeland & Rennie Pilgrem) for kick starting the scene back into life in the early 00's with the release of their first album, A Plump Night Out.
Eight years on and the only thing that springs to my mind is "fuck me, they've done it again"! This CD encompasses everything I love about dance music and Breaks in particular. Its packed full with variety, oozing confidence in its production, consistently surprising in its composition and, above all, sounds fucking amazing on a loud soundsystem!!
Basically these guys have been kicking out consistently good shit for the best part of decade and this album does nothing except to confirm that they're gonna keep goin for a long time yet! It's an evolution of their sound that leans further towards heavy electro synths than their earlier stuff but retains that awesome crunky, bouncey funk vibe that I fell in love with in the first place!
TRACKLIST:
Best Believe Us: Spacey intro for the album with some lovely synths sweaping over a bubbling break
System Addict:Already a classic, since being released earlier in the year - this track brings together some quality electro synth work over a booming bassline that'll get yer teeth rattling nice and lively.
Shifting Gears:With an intro that practically screams Starsky + Hutch and funky synths that run over and around a very 'grime-ish' bassline. Nice vocal work that sits on the right side of cheesy/cool.
Snake Eyes:Next single release off the album and 100% pure teeth-gritting grunt! This is gonna get RINSED!!
He Got Beef:Wicked down tempo tune with heavy bassline, distortion + a sweet vocal! Definitely a good end of set track....
Intermission:Speeding things up yet keeping fairly chilled, this does exactly what it's supposed to do - provide an intermission between halves.
Theme X:A tune so sexy, its practically playing volleyball in frilly satin knickers! I challenge anyone to stick this on and not crack a raving great smile at the funkiness!!
S.N.A.F.U:More than a little essence of Chemical Brothers in evidence here... some wicked guitar work as well...
Beat Myself Up:Groovy little number with some sweet vocoder work. Not a club track but quality production nonetheless...
Disco Unusual:Pacey track that brings a lot of bounce to the party...
Victim:Quite a departure from some of the earlier stuff... Crunchy electro synths run alongside an female vocal that could be called almost-too-commercial if the production wasn't so damn good.
Rocket Soul:
Nice euphoric Breaks tune that should have everyone bouncing around like lunatics this summer. Awesome breakdown guarantee's some true hands in the air moments @ the festivals methinks!:-D
Torque of the Devil:Smart move here, they released the livelier club version as a single last month and save this, calmer version for the album. The addition of some female vocals add some soul to a previously 'electronic-sounding' song...
Lost In Space:Nice chilled ending to the album... Recalls the airs of some 80's summertime funk record but with some growly bassline synths ripping over the lazy guitars + vocals.
Now if you'll all excuse me... I have to go and have a lie down!!
