The police also decide how many officers are required to police events, and the killer is that without police support many events cannot be licensed or insured.
So the coppers are basically extorting money from events organizers.
Music Festival - ooooh you're gonna need 250 officers for the entire duration, on top of the professional security you've paid for...
250 x 55 = £13750 per hour
so a festy like glade over 3 days (36 hours) would rack up a bill of £495,000, almost half a million quid.
