Hahahaha get this:
Basically we'd pitched to do some music at this year's Real Ale Festival in Newbury as a guy I do loads of work for is on the organising committee...
I'd pitched to do a couple of nufunk-based sets, so we're talking 100-110bpm funk based stuff in the vain of ASkillz, Rennie Pilgrem etc.
Basically it turns out that Saint Alber, Newbury's Patron Saint of Dance Music has had a quiet word with the committee and advised them that we'd be totally unsuitable for the event, so we've been turned down (before anyone had bothered to listen to the promo mix I'd done).
Fear not though people, for that shining beacon of light that is Keep Off The Grass will be there to play 'proper' dance music (surprise)...

I have already vented on this topic but the back stabbing that has gone on is rediculous. I really dont see it being a problem though, if they want to be the Newbury famous djs then well done.... They may one day realise there is actally a couple of roads that go outside of Newbury (Shock horror!)

think ol newbs is well on the way to becoming a ghost town like coventry in the late 70's - 80's
Avenue has closed it's doors for good this weekend, the KC shut 3 or 4 weeks ago now, and i hear the owners of the Waggon & Horses are going to make a bid on it.
I also hear that The Clocktower is on the market freehold - that's with NO tie to the brewery at £125,000 which is a fuckin snip - only problem will be the monthly council tax which is somewhere in the region of £5k monthly and the possibilty the the building may disintegrate (plus location is difficult for foot fall)...
All in all the weatherspoons has directly affected everything as predicted. Pete the bellcheese is no longer managing the Hogs after a reign of at least ten terrible years, so there's a new avenue that might open up, but beyond that small beacon of hope there is nothing.
The people don't fucking care, i'm sure if you canvassed everyone in the queue to liquid, fever or the diamond tap on a friday night everyone would say they are 'passionate about music' and they would all list a diverse bunch as their favourites, but if you asked them how much their music taste had to do with going to liquid, fever or the diamond tap only a very small percentage would say they went to these places because of the tunes. I reckon about 75% of people go to these places in spite of the music, so the club doesn't feel the need to adopt a serious music policy,so the people hear the same old shit and don't wake up, carrying on not caring. It's a vicious circle.
